Youth FIRST Athletics — Children's Privacy: COPPA Direct Notice to Parents

Effective date: August 17, 2026

This is the direct notice that the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA," 15 U.S.C. §§ 6501–6506, and the FTC's COPPA Rule, 16 C.F.R. Part 312) requires us to give you, the parent or guardian, before we collect personal information relating to your child under 13. It supplements our full Privacy Policy.

Scope of this notice

This notice covers athletes under 13 in the Youth FIRST Athletics app. The most important fact comes first:

Children under 13 never have a login and cannot use the app themselves. We do not collect any information directly from a child under 13. Everything about an under-13 athlete is entered and managed by you, the parent or guardian, through your own account. When your child turns 13, there is an upgrade path to their own login — and it only activates when you approve it.

Because the child never interacts with the app, the information below is information you provide about your child, plus training observations the coach records. We still treat all of it as children's personal information and protect it accordingly.

One consent covers the app

When you complete the Parental Consent & Acknowledgment in the app, that single consent covers our collection and use of your child's information as described in this notice, for as long as your child participates. Separate, additional permissions are always required for: the photo/video public squad reel, the athletes-only chat channel (13+ accounts), XP/rank gamification, and the fueling-pulse summary — each is opt-in on its own.

If you do not consent, your child cannot be enrolled in the app, and we will delete any information already provided.

Information collected about children (itemized)

Provided by you at enrollment:

• Child's name, date of birth, sport, and school (school is visible only to the coach and your family)
• Your name, email, phone, and relationship to the child
• Home address, city, ZIP
• Physician name and phone; emergency contact
• Medical notes, allergy information, and injury reports (including any at signup)
• Signed liability waiver (e-signature, versioned) and your photo/video release election (yes/no, changeable only by you)

Recorded during training (by the coach, or by you on your child's behalf):

• Workout check-ins, effort ratings, comments, and weekly goals
• Benchmark results (times, jumps, lifted weights) and estimated strength metrics
• Height and weight (growth chart)
• Daily wellness check-ins (mood, soreness including a body map, sleep, nutrition, hydration, headspace, motivation — 1–10 scales)
• XP/rank derived from activity — only if your family opts in
• Injury and return-to-play logs, including doctor's notes you upload (private storage)

Nutrition (FIRST Fuel): based on a parent intake, producing fueling ranges — never a diet. For children under 10 it is parent-only; ages 10–13 see a read-only view with no numbers, and no nutrition data is collected from the child. The coach never sees any individual nutrition data.

Photos/videos: you may upload highlight photos/videos to a private, signed-URL bucket. Nothing is public unless you opt in AND the coach approves it, and you can withdraw at any time.

What we never collect from or about children: no AI processing, no biometrics, no audio recording, no ads or trackers, no direct online contact with your under-13 child, and no persistent identifiers gathered from a child's own device (they have no login).

How we use children's information

• To coach your child safely and effectively: plans, progress, benchmarks, goals
• To handle emergencies and injuries: medical/allergy notes, physician and emergency contacts, return-to-play tracking
• To show your family (and only your family, plus the coach) your child's progress
• To display, only with your per-feature permission, first name + last initial in team-only features (feed, leaderboards)
• Never for advertising, marketing profiles, sale, or disclosure beyond what is listed below

How children's information is disclosed

• The coach sees training, wellness, medical/emergency, and injury information — never individual nutrition data.
• Other team families can see at most a first name + last initial in team-only features, and only if you have those features enabled for your child.
• Service providers (Supabase database/storage in the US, Cloudflare Pages hosting, Resend email) process data on our behalf only.
• No one else. We do not sell, rent, or share children's information for advertising, and we would disclose it beyond the above only if the law requires it or a child's safety demands it.

Retention

You choose the retention setting per athlete: keep until you request deletion, a rolling 12 months, or keep until age 17 with 30 days' notice before removal. Details are in our Data Retention & Deletion document.

Your rights as a parent

At any time you may:

1. Review the personal information we have about your child — it is all visible in your parent account, and you may request a copy;
2. Delete your child's information — self-serve, triple-confirmed deletion in the app takes effect immediately, or use the data-removal request queue and track its status;
3. Refuse further collection or use of your child's information — withdraw consent, and your child's participation in the app ends and the data is handled per your retention/deletion choice;
4. Change any election (photo/video release, visibility controls, chat permission, XP/rank, retention choice) without deleting the account.

Exercising these rights never affects anything except app participation — the coaching relationship is between your family and Jon.

How we obtain verifiable parental consent

Consent is obtained through your authenticated in-app parent account plus a signed acknowledgment: you create the parent account, verify your email, and electronically sign the Parental Consent & Acknowledgment (versioned and stored, with a downloadable audit log). Because the under-13 child has no login, no collection can begin any other way.
